Scholarships

Hayti Central School Alumni gives back to the community. We value education and want to leave a legacy for the next generation of students in Hayti. Many alumni of Hayti Central School have had great success and it is our desire to see other students of Hayti follow in their footsteps. Along with the scholarship, the recipients are presented with a copy of the book Hayti Negro School: Our Story, written by Iona Griggs Hollins, an alumni of Hayti Central High School.

The scholarship itself is a $500 book scholarship provided to help students with their educational pursuits. They are awarded based on the following criteria:

  • Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher
  • Proof of college/university enrollment
  • Extra-curricular activities and community service

In 2013, the number of scholarships given doubled, making the number of awards four (4). In 2015, the Chicago Chapter No. 1 decided to give their scholarship award through the Parent Chapter, which made the total number of awards five (5). We have been giving five (5) book scholarship awards since that time. In 2015, a $1,000 scholarship was created named the Dr. Lafayette Frederick Scholarship Award. The recipient of this scholarship must pursue a degree in Science or Science related field.
